Na de dood van de keizer in 1941 keert Hermine terug naar haar landgoed in Duitsland (Silezi\u00eb, nu Polen). Begin 1945 vlucht ze voor het naderende Rode Leger. Na de oorlog wordt ze opgepakt door de Russen en in Frankfurt an der Oder ge\u00efnterneerd. Daar woont ze in een klein appartement onder streng toezicht. Op 7 augustus 1947 overlijdt ze plotseling door hartfalen. Haar laatste wens om bij Wilhelm II in Doorn begraven te worden gaat niet in vervulling. De bezettingszones na de Tweede Wereldoorlog maken de weg naar Doorn te moeilijk.
